I don’t normally weigh in on the Photoshop row because I work in editorial and I know the importance and necessities of aesthetics without encouraging a negative body image. At the magazine we try to focus more on clever lighting, poses and make-up rather than winging it and airbrushing in post production until they’re unrecognisable.

HOWEVER, when model and Mrs John legend, Chrissy Teigen posted that image of her legs, stretch marks and all, on Instagram, I wanted to high five that beauty so hard, along with the rest of the female race I’m sure. Although photoshop has it’s place in image making, the appeal of celebs taking to social media is that we could finally see them in all their normal glory. No blurring, blemish-fixing or brightening. Just normal, in their natural…habitat (yes, they have become a bit like zoo animals in this media circus). But as so many celebs have committed the ultimate Photoshop fail amending images on social media (Lindsay and Beyonce, I’m looking at you!) it’s become clear that perhaps these public figures don’t want us to relate to them after all. Enter Chrissy! Her refreshing account of her life has resulted in a strong female following who get that sometimes, we do just want to tuck into a burger and not feel bad, or don our granny pants for the sake of a clingy dress and frantically douse our bodies in last minute fake tan-Chrissy shares it all.

In her normal outspoken stance, the Sports Illustrated model admitted, “I have those apps, the Facetune and Photoshopping ones, and I just didn’t feel like doing it anymore—and I’m never doing it again, because I think we forgot what normal people look like now,” she explained. I think I speak for everyone when I say, GO CHRISSY, GO! In a world where we’re surrounded by perfection, size wars and body shaming-how much better does everyone feel knowing that someone as beautiful and successful as Chrissy is actually, just like us-stretchies and all. So, put that Bio Oil down ladies, it’s Ok!
