NYFW HIGHLIGHTS: PART SIX

Another New York Fashion Week comes to an end but boy did it end with a bang. Fashion heavyweights Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs took the audience by storm in three very different ways.

Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren

Inspired by his travels, Ralph Lauren used an incredibly broad colour palette, giving nothing away about which country in particular was at the forefront of his designs. From the vibrant hues of India and Brazil to the muted neutrals of safari, Lauren’s show was a far cry from his Polo Ralph Lauren collection earlier in the week. Necklines glittered with statement jewels and sumptuous neck scarfs while waists were belted in metallic and leather. Wherever Lauren is taking us, we can’t wait to go!

Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs

Also favouring the khaki theme was Marc Jacobs, who put a a definitive utility-spin on his collection of pocketed dresses, combat-style trousers and belted military coats. Each uniformed in blunt, black bobs and sans makeup, models marched down the runway as the audience enjoyed a transcript inspired by John Smith’s 1976 short film The Girl Chewed Gum through Beats by Dr Dre headphones.

J Mendel

J Mendel delivered a slightly more romantic collection as models sauntered in fluid chiffon, off-the-shoulder silk and gowns split to the thigh. Creative director Gilles Mendel’s collaboration with artist, Enoc Perez provided a beautiful texture and a modern twist on femininity.

Calvin Klein

Calvin Klein

When you have Anna Wintour and Sarah Jessica Parker sitting front row, you know it’s going to be a show worth waiting for. Keeping true to the brand minimalist identity, Calvin Klein’s creative director Francisco Costa offered a clean silhouette in navy, white, black, silver and red. Mesh honeycomb knit dresses, lacquer-perforated leather coats and T-shirt dresses were mixed with sleeveless tanks, belted coats and fluted skirts cut meticulously and tailored perfectly. Expect Jennifer Aniston sporting a piece on the red carpet any day now.

Right, onto London Fashion Week we go!…
