The Sixties and Seventies are, by far, the era I wish I had been born into. The amazing fashions, attitudes and music. Ahh the music. But for those front rowers at Tommy Hilfiger’s show at New York Fashion Week yesterday they were treated to a sartorial throwback as the American designer put on a catwalk fashion festival to honour his first collection in 1963.
As Jimi Hendrix’s Crosstown Traffic blasted out across the audience, models including Georgia May Jagger and Kendall Jenner strutted down the flower-strewn runway in belted tunics, floaty maxi dresses and star-emblazoned fur jackets. Flowers spelt out Hilfigers name as a nod to The Beatles Sgt Peppers album cover whilst giant stars decorated the catwalk in spectacular style.
Expect to see Alexa Chung, Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne in pieces next year. We, however, will have to keep trailing the vintage shops.
