When travelling to the cosmopolitan city of Barcelona, there’s only one place you’ll want to be; the Passeig de Gràcia. Stretching three miles through the centre of the city, it’s the only shopping and business destination that really matters. Strewn with luxury brands such as Miu Miu, Stella McCartney and Prada it has everything you need (including the odd peppering of tapas bars of course).
But one of the more notable buildings nestled amongst Chanel and Pronovias is the five-star Hotel Majestic. Since undergoing a 30 million euro renovation last year, the hotel commands the wow-factor due to its glistening marble floors, pristine cream furnishings and a professional calm you can only expect from a luxury hotel. With bags dropped and check-in hours away we decided to make the most of the warm summers day and head up to La Dolce Vitae rooftop pool (I know, how very SATC) to enjoy the panoramic views of the city below. Sophisticated cream sofas, glass tables, and undercover canopies line the outskirts of the pool, where the chic and polished gesture over their Martini’s and move seductively to the chilled-out house music that sounds overhead.
Although the wait for a pool-side snack of tapas was bordering unreasonable, the food is fresh and authentic and goes down very well with an ice cold Mojito. If you fancy a little break from the city sun, the Hotel Majestic’s spa offers a tranquil oasis complete with a hot and cold hydrotherapy zone, a sauna, steam bath, sensations shower and ice fountain for those who need a little cooling down. As the only wellness centre in Europe to be awarded the prestigious SpaExcellence seal of quality, its team of expert specialists are on hand to treat your every need. If you have time for a treatment, the Majestic Diamonds Ritual will leave you feeling relaxed and rebalanced thanks to the combination of micronized iron, diamond dust and wild lavender aroma.
Although our hotel room was a little soul-less and dated compared to the website images, I believe the suites offer significantly more impressive surroundings and include terraces and luxe furnishings in line with the rest of the hotel.
As the evening descends the Hotel Majestic transforms into a sultry setting complete with the tinkering sounds of a grand piano in the vast ground floor bar offering some of the best cocktails in the city. Although we headed out into the night, a nightcap after hours is definitely recommended to relax and unwind after a long day of sight-seeing.
If all of that has worked up an appetite, you won’t leave hungry as breakfast puts on an impressive display. Combining the fresh delicacies of a patisserie and the generous offerings of a deli, the hotel provides a separate buffet room full of bruschetta, cured meats, smoked cheeses, and pastries that melt in the mouth.
Unrivalled by its location in the hub of the city, the Hotel Majestic offers a home away from home; where the cosmopolitan come to cool off and the well-travelled come to bask in Spanish luxury.
